Sunday Special: Full Swing
Lots of things going on these days around here, and because of that, I’ve been slacking with the writing.
Writing is usually one of the first things that stops when I get busy. Although, it absolutely shouldn’t be. It’s how I get things out of my head and ideas down onto paper or in this case digital paper. I know that, and feel a lot better when I do write.
So, here we are. It’s May. Baseball season is in full swing. The weather is getting nicer. The grass is being cut weekly now. The perennials we have around our home are getting larger by the minute and almost ready to bloom. The pool cover is off. The filter is setup and running, and we have all the chemicals added already to get it open. While it’s not officially pool season yet. It’s going to be open earlier this year so we can enjoy it longer.
Baseball season is going really well. My older guy’s team is playing well and really learning how to play the game. My younger guy’s team is getting better each week. He is also surprising me with how well he is picking up the game. This is his first year in coach pitch and has done really well. He was not a big fan of tee-ball. Probably because he saw his older brother playing “real baseball” and he wanted to be like that. My older guy is doing well too. He found a position he really likes, catcher. As the manager of the team, I try to allow him to play there enough, but also play other positions. At 8 years old, in my opinion, he should be able to play anywhere on the field. And to his credit, he can. He even pitches and does well for his first year.
I am very grateful I can coach both of them, and remind myself of that often. They are only this young once. Enjoy it.
Because of all of this baseball and yard work I’ve been doing, I’ve averaged over 12k steps per day. That’s not a bad thing. I’m also down about 10 lbs since the season started. The movement and tracking of my food has been what has helped the most. I have a long way to go on this weight loss journey, but I’m well on my way.
The one thing I need to get back to is working out in the morning more consistently. It gives me a great start to the day and puts my head in a good place. I’ve done enough, but not consistently like I want to. That changes this week. I’ve got a good plan in place and will execute it. I just need to get out of bed. I’m usually very ambitious and motivated at night for the next morning. Then the morning comes and it’s tough to get up. Again, that changes back this week.
Here’s to a good, productive, enjoyable week ahead.
Until next time.
